A hanging robot plays a string instrument while tracking a viewer with a five cell horizontal array of infrared sensors. The robot follows the nearest object within the sensing boundary, resulting in the string being played by the audience's position. Two strings are stimulated at opposite ends of the piece in order to create competing audio spaces, which vary by the position of the robot on the strings. Many different kinds of tension take place in this work, from the literal tension of the piece's strings to the metaphorical tension between the robot and the viewer.
